How CCW renewal class reservations work

Pick an open date below, confirm the seat in checkout, and you receive an instant email confirmation plus a calendar entry. CCW renewal class dates fill quickly — especially Sunday mornings — and we recommend booking at least two to three weeks before your permit expires so the renewal application reaches the El Dorado County Sheriff before the expiration date.

The CCW renewal class fee is $190 per student and covers all 8 hours of updated SB 2 refresher training, the live-fire requalification, B-27 targets, and the class-completion certificate you submit with your renewal application.

What's included in the CCW renewal class

One full day, 8 hours. Morning classroom session covers California CCW law updates since your initial permit, the SB 2 curriculum changes that took effect January 1, 2024, current carry restrictions and prohibited locations, and a use-of-force refresher. Afternoon session is live-fire requalification at the Hangtown Range indoor range — 3, 7, and 10-yard distances on B-27 silhouette targets; pass requires 80% hits. Bring up to 5 firearms currently listed on your permit. Class-completion certificate issued on-site at the end of the day.

Who can book this CCW renewal class

California residents with an existing CCW permit issued by any California county. Most students are El Dorado County renewals, but the class also serves CCW holders from Sacramento, Folsom, Auburn, and surrounding counties. If your permit expires within 30 days, book this class immediately — counties typically require a fresh class-completion certificate before they will accept a renewal application. If you have never held a CCW permit, see the initial CCW Class instead.

What to bring on CCW renewal class day

Your current California CCW permit, valid California ID, the firearm(s) currently listed on your permit, 100 rounds of factory ammunition appropriate for each firearm, a quality belt-mounted holster that fully covers the trigger guard, eye and ear protection (rentals available), and a notebook. Ammunition is available for purchase on-site if you forget.
