What the CCW renewal course covers

Eight hours of focused instruction designed for California CCW holders whose permits are expiring or who need a documented renewal qualification. Day includes updated SB 2 curriculum (post-January 1, 2024 changes to California law), a refresher on permissible use of force and prohibited locations, a safe-storage refresher, and live-fire re-qualification at the 3-, 7-, and 10-yard lines per El Dorado County standards.

You will fire up to 30 rounds per firearm on your permit and must meet the 80% accuracy standard on a B-27 silhouette target. Upon completion you receive a course-completion certificate to submit with your renewal application to your county Sheriff.

Who this course is for

California residents with an existing CCW permit issued by any California county (most commonly El Dorado County for our students). Bring your current permit, valid government ID, the firearm(s) listed on your permit, 100 rounds of appropriate ammunition per firearm, eye and ear protection, and a quality belt-mounted holster that fully covers the trigger guard. Course is $190 per student.

Schedule and registration

Renewal courses run regularly on weekends. The interactive class calendar below shows upcoming dates and available seats — register online. If your permit expires within 30 days we recommend scheduling immediately; counties typically require a fresh qualification before renewal application.

Important Timing: Most agencies recommend starting the renewal process 60–90 days before your permit expires. Do not let your permit expire—if it expires before your renewal is processed, you cannot legally carry concealed until the new one is issued. Taking a course from an unapproved provider will result in your renewal being rejected.

8 Hour Course

Firearm safety review, California use-of-force laws, and updates to prohibited "Sensitive Places" (SB 2 compliant)

Live-Fire Re-Qualification

Re-qualify with every firearm on your permit. 80% accuracy on silhouette targets at 3, 7, and 10 yards

Renewal Process Overview

Firearm Changes

If you purchased a new firearm and want to add it to your permit during renewal, you must qualify with it during your 8-hour course. You must also qualify with any other gun you want on your permit (Maximum 5).

Residency Requirements

You must still reside in the county where the permit was issued. If you've moved, notify the agency within 10 days—you will need to apply for a new permit in your new jurisdiction.

No Interview Required

Generally, renewals do not require an in-person interview unless there has been a significant change in your background or status.

SB 2 Compliance

Ensure your training includes 2024+ legal updates. California has significantly expanded the list of prohibited "Sensitive Places" where carrying is not permitted, even with a valid permit.
