Range Safety Rules & Guidelines

Essential Safety Rules

Self-Monitoring Range

All shooters are expected to be polite, cooperate with others, and follow all Hangtown Range guidelines and safety procedures.

CCTV Monitoring

The range is continually monitored by closed circuit TV. Unsafe behavior will result in being asked to leave the facility.

Walk Only

Always walk in the archery range — no running.

Supervision Required

Archers under 16 must be accompanied by an adult 18 or older. No children under age 9.

Arrow Handling

Always carry arrows with points down or in a quiver, never pointed toward people.

Secure Loose Items

Secure all loose clothing, tie back long hair, and remove bracelets, necklaces, hood strings, headphones, and hoop earrings.

Footwear

No open-toed shoes allowed on the range.

Equipment Storage

Store bow cases on tables to avoid creating tripping hazards.

Ready Position

Keep arrows in quiver until directed to shoot.

Shooting Line Protocol

Only commence firing when all shooters are on the shooting line. All others must be at least 3ft back from the shooter.

Target Discipline

Shoot only at the target directly in front of you and in your lane.

Arrow Types

Use only target or field points — never broadheads, barbed, or judo points. Fiberglass arrows prohibited; feather-fletched arrows for recurve/longbows only.

Draw Position

When drawing the bow, always keep the arrow pointed below the top of the target — no sky draw.

Approved Targets

Shoot only at designated targets. Use only approved archery targets on the backstop.

Full Draw Rule

Only release the bow string at full draw with an arrow nocked. Dry firing damages bows and is dangerous.

Dropped Arrow Protocol

If an arrow drops past the shooting line, leave it until a cease-fire is announced.
